Community Legal Aid, a nonprofit law firm serving low-income individuals in central and northeast Ohio, is offering several online clinics and presentations in July.
The programs are free, taught by attorneys and open to the public unless noted. Community Legal Aid events can be found at www.communitylegalaid.org/
“Ask a Lawyer” Live Facebook events are scheduled Wednesdays. Dates and topics for the 5 p.m. sessions are:
- Wednesday: Housing concerns — understanding options and legal rights that can help preserve a home;
- July 14: Infant vitality — addressing the social determinants of health that impact the well-being of mothers and infants;
- July 21: Unemployment benefits — an update on the legal issues surrounding benefits;
- July 28: General Q&A session — get answers to questions related to family law, debt, housing and more.

Legal clinics

Evictions worries will be discussed at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. Legal Aid advocates will discuss what to expect if you are facing an eviction or falling behind on rent. Participants can learn about legal options and community resources that may be able to help. Visit www.communitylegalaid.org/
A Homeowners Information class is offered the first and third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Participants can learn about the foreclosure process and options if they are falling behind on their mortgage. Click www.communitylegalaid.org/
The July 10 Neighborhood Law Clinic requires advance registration for the program from 10 a.m. to noon. The clinic is offered in partnership with Brennan Manna Diamond, LLC. Eligible clients can speak to an attorney about their civil legal concerns. To apply, click www.communitylegalaid.org/
Also requiring advance registration are the July 13 online record sealing clinic and the July 21 Counsel and Advice clinic. The former, a 5 p.m. clinic, is offered in partnership with volunteers from Goodyear. Those who pre-register and qualify will be sent the Zoom link information to attend the clinic.
The latter program also begins at 5 p.m. and is offered in partnership with the Access to Justice Committee of the Akron Bar Association.
At 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, legal assistance to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault is available. Divorce, custody/visitation, debt/bankruptcy, record sealing, evictions, protection orders and more are topics to discuss. Pre-register by calling 330-983-2620.
Veterans and Trumbull clinics

Veterans can speak with an advocate to be screened for free legal help related to housing, debt, public benefits, record sealing and other civil legal matters. Clinic services are by phone appointment only and offered in partnership with local VA services.
For Trumbull residents, the Clarence Darrow Court Clinic (housing and financial concerns) is open to eligible residents or those who have a pending eviction, foreclosure or consumer debt/collection lawsuit in a Trumbull County court. Additional services may be available. Clinic operates by phone appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Call 330-983-2584 to pre-register.
