So here’s a shoutout to the many copyright lawyers who read this column (one of whom still knows me at lunch). If you have clients whose images are subject to being ripped off or used illegally, a new platform is coming that could let you hunt down misused images on the internet. The product is called “ImageRights for Law Firms,” and it was discovered for all of us by the inestimable Bob Ambrogi of LawSites. The product’s parent company is ImageRights International, which has been around since 2009. ImageRights software helps visual artists protect their copyright with a proprietary web search whose AI finds and analyzes images on the internet. The legal version of the product is designed to provide lawyers with potential evidence of copyright infringement. The software is able to find images owned by a client even if the image has changed colors, perspectives, or has been altered in other ways. However, you cannot determine whether the image is, itself copyrighted or who owns the image. This would take some further investigative work. For the attorney’s product, the client may provide the attorney with images owned by that client that may be being misused on the internet. The lawyer will then request a time and date stamped screenshot, and will receive that along with any accompanying IP information (such as a URL). If an artist is looking for a lawyer who knows this system, the company keeps a list of those mentioned. lawyers. The legal product uses basically the same technology as the artist product, adapted to the narrower interests of copyright litigation. Ambrogi quotes Joe G. Naylor, CEO and co-founder of ImageRights, as saying that “ImageRights has partnered with dozens of IP law firms over the past decade. Many times they asked je kk we can provide specialized searches for copyright infringement cases they have been litigating or even just run a general search for one of their clients. “It became clear that there was an opportunity to leverage the incredible technology. We have developed and expertise in identifying potential infringement claims and providing this directly to IP law firms and in-house legal teams.” The service starts at $195 a month, which is really nothing in this field.Training takes less than half an hour, and then you are off and running.
